Humble Beginnings
Always kept myself busy
Born into a middle-class family in Czechoslovakia and limited opportunities to venture beyond "the iron curtain" I kept myself busy with school, athletics, rock band, writing to a high school paper, and lots and lots of reading ... and always trying "on" new "hats" and challenges. So, when a university basketball scholarship offer came, I took it and played at an university level while also achieving an academic scholarship.

New Country, New Home
Starting over
After graduating from the Technical University Kosice, with a thesis in a Speech Recognition H/W and S/W Interface, I accepted PhD candidacy and teaching as an assistant professor of Discrete Control Systems (robotics and automation) following the mandatory military service (Airforce, lieutenant rank) . Two years later and many tries, me and my family were given the opportunity for a new beginning in Canada (... it was a tough one... no European credentials were recognized so we had to work my way up. From a slide line operator at Northern Telecom (later Nortel Networks) to an engineering and business management positions leading Pricing Portfolios, Transforming IP Licensing and Brand Protection, Warranty, Outsourcing, while acting as BoD, Treasurer and later President in Non-Profit (AGMA) . I was there when the "lights went off" at Nortel due to the bankruptcy 16 years later, so it was a time to move onto "on-and-off" expat career.

Going global
Working globally - Americas
Working at Dolby Laboratories in the beautiful San Francisco CA and in charge of IP Licensing Compliance and Enforcement for Americas allowed me to travel across the Americas (investigating, training law enforcement and speaking at various venues such as International IP Crime Conference - IIPCIC, IP Exchange, IQPC, and others). The West Coast weather also allowed me to keep active physically and I pursued my daily running which lead to finishing the SF marathon.
After 3 years at Dolby I returned to Canada while also starting my long term collaboration with Connor Consulting (auditing and compliance) and Ruvixx (co-launching). On my next assignment at Blackberry (leading the smartphone pricing team) I learn all I could about the mobile H/W and S/W and security business. After restructuring, I returned to my own consulting practice.
"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair…

Eastward
Africa and Asia Pacific
My consulting clients included MHL LLC., Lattice Semiconductor, Cypress Semiconductor and SunPower Corp. in San Jose CA, where I led the global brand protection efforts terminating black market and grey market for semiconductors and solar cells / panels. Business travel took me to Philippines, South Africa, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea... and I discovered that I really enjoyed the SAE weather, culture, and the real (hot) Malay, Korean, and Thai cuisines. 20+ years of Canadian winter ... I could not get enough of the SAE sunshine. So, when another opportunity came to work in Singapore, I took it with no hesitation.
"If somebody offers you an amazing opportunity but you are not sure you can do it, say yes – then learn how to do it later!” (Richard Branson).

Another vertical, another country, another personal growth opportunity
The Eagle Has Landed...
After working for 15 years in telecom and networking gear, then another 10 years in IP licensing business renewable energy business, consulting, SaaS, Mobile App, Mobility.... why not wearables and fitness/health vertical? I accepter a position to drive APAC brand protection at Fitbit Singapore. The business took me around SAE and allowed me to broaden my global network of contacts. I became Founder and CEO of Phi Ventures and a Venture Partner at R3i Capital and very active mentor and coach to multiple global start-ups. I enjoy talking to the founders, other VC's, looking at their ideas and dreams and sharing my insights, connecting them with potential collaborators, and together striving to make an impact.
During all the 30+ years I touched and had the opportunity to transform almost every part of the business there is. Taking particular interest in IP Licensing and Compliance, Brand Protection , Contracts, Supply Chain Security, IP Security, and work extensively on Strategic Pricing, Outsourcing, Account Management.
